Dear colleagues,
Registration for CHAT 2009, the seventh annual conference of the CHAT group, is now
open. Full details (with programme/abstracts), and a registration form are online here -
http://www.contemp-hist-arch.ac.uk/news.htm
This email is to provide some information and guidance on registration, accommodation
and travel to the conference.
-- Registration --
Numbers are limited in the venue at Keble College, so registration sooner rather than
later would be advisable. Just fill out the form and email, fax or post with payment to
Carol Neville at the School of Archaeology (as on the form). The form is here -
http://www.contemp-hist-arch.ac.uk/chat_registration.pdf
Registration is at a flat rate of £40, including tea, coffee and wine reception.
We'd be very grateful if all speakers could also register as soon as possible.
-- Accommodation --
There are many options for accommodation in Oxford, although it would be wise to book
in advance.
For students on a budget for accommodation -- we recommend Oxford Backpackers -
http://www.hostels.co.uk
- or Oxford YHA -
http://www.yha.org.uk/find-accommodation/heart-of-england/hostels/oxford/index.aspx -
both of which are very central (easily walkable to Keble).
As well as the many hotels in central Oxford (for which check laterooms.com and similar
hotel comparison websites), for those who like the banal aesthetic of a Travelodge,
Travelodge Oxford Peartree currently has rooms from £19 per night in the week of the
conference (a short taxi ride from Keble).
-- Arrival --
Keble College is a short walk from the railway and bus stations in Oxford.
Oxford is very easy to get to by train from elsewhere in the UK. A very regular bus
service runs 24 hrs from central London, and there are excellent 24 hr coaches from
Gatwick and Heathrow (much easier than train). Parking is very limited in Oxford,
although there are good Park and Ride schemes, and some hotels provide parking.
There is a map of Oxford, showing the location of Keble College, here - http://www.ox.ac.uk/visitors_friends/maps_and_directions/index.html
-- Contacting CHAT 09 --
Please direct any general enquiries about the conference to Laura, Brent and the CHAT 09
organisers at [log in to unmask] not to Carol (who is just dealing with
payment/registration).
See you in October!
