research, consultancy and teaching excellence of the Centre for Tourism
Policy Studies (CENTOPS) which is an affiliate member of the UN World
Tourism Organisation.

The courses are:
1. MA TOURISM AND SOCIAL ANTHROPOLOGY
This course focuses on the role of tourism in shaping the ways in which
people relate to and make sense of the world in which they live. It offers
an innovative and critically informed approach to the study of tourism
focusing on key themes such as: theoretical approaches; tourism, landscape
and materiality; travel and visual culture; pilgrimage and tourism; play
and performance; kinship, belonging and identity; ritual and myth;
methodology, ethnography and ways of seeing.

2. MSc TOURISM AND INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
This course provides a critical understanding of the role of tourism in
development focusing on tourism as an important tool for economic
diversification and regeneration, poverty reduction and socio-economic
integration. Key themes encompass: development and globalization; tourism,
structural economic and regional change; international cooperation,
philanthropy and consultancy; South-South solutions to global problems;
tourism and poverty alleviation; gender, equality and participation;
fieldwork methodologies.
