I've just logged into a Canadian machine and I could check out a git
module from JAC:
% git clone git://starlink.jach.hawaii.edu/tk.git
Initialized empty Git repository in /home/cadc/timj/tk/.git/

remote: Compressing objects: 100% (1362/1362), done.

Receiving objects: 100% (2656/2656), 6.28 MiB | 617 KiB/s, done.
Resolving deltas: 100% (1671/1671), done.
Checking out files: 100% (802/802), done.
does your sysadmin block git: protocol? Can you try the http protocol
version instead?
