UCL INSTITUTE OF NEUROLOGY
Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging
Research Associate/Senior Research Associate:
MRI Physicist/Sequence Developer
An MRI Physicist/Sequence Developer position is available at the
Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging. The laboratory pursues brain
research by means of functional and structural imaging and is equipped
with a 1.5 T whole body scanner (Siemens Sonata), a 3 T head scanner
(Siemens Allegra), a 3 T whole body scanner (Siemens Tim Trio inc.
32-ch head coil), an MEG system (CTF/VSM), and two EEG systems, one
being MR compatible.
The successful candidate will provide active support of cutting edge
neuroscience research projects, working alongside members of the
Physics Group and reporting to the Head of Physics, Dr Nikolaus
Weiskopf. The appointee will also be engaged in his/her own research
projects to develop novel and improved MRI sequences for functional
and morphological neuroimaging, including the following possible
projects:
• High-resolution functional and anatomical imaging;
• Quantitative multi-parameter anatomical imaging (PD, T1, T2, MT, etc.);
• Reducing susceptibility artifacts in fMRI;
• Motion-insensitive MRI sequences and online/offline motion correction
methods;
• Parallel imaging;
The appointment will be made on UCL Grade 7 or Grade 8, depending on
the level of skills and experience as detailed in the job description
(see http://www.ion.ucl.ac.uk/about/vacancies.htm). Applicants
should have, or be close to obtaining, a PhD in physics or biomedical
engineering, or have equivalent research experience, with a strong
background in MR sequence development. They should also have
experience with programming high-level languages (C/C++, Matlab).
Experience with Siemens MR scanners and software (IDEA, ICE) and/or
image reconstruction is desirable.
Starting salary will be in the range £28,839 - £35,469 pa for an
appointment on UCL Grade 7 (Research Associate) or £36,532 - £43,622
