Dear colleagues
A number of Social Policy Association members have suggested ways in which
the SPA might appropriately mark the death of Peter Townsend earlier this
week. Although none of the following can measure up to the incalculable
contributions that Peter made to the study and practice of social policy,
we will be writing formally to LSE and to Peter's family. There is also a
page on the LSE website where individuals can post tributes to Peter. We
will be paying tribute to Peter during the SPA Annual Conference in
Edinburgh (29th June - 1st July); and hope to be able to contribute to
commemorative events that are likely to be arranged during the autumn. We
will keep you informed of these.
Peter's life may be featured in Radio 4's Last Words programme (Friday
afternoon/repeated Sunday evening) either this week or next. best wishes
Caroline
