I know this guy:http://chrismccaw.com/Home.html
If you are into black & white photography you might like his work.
He does platinum printing. The process is tedious and lethal. The time and
attention needed puts it on another level as far as using that as a gauge to
anchor and adjust importance. Digital is a completely different arena in my
opinion. The way the artist exploits the medium I think is what sets them
apart from just another person that figured out how to nail a shot with the
correct lighting and depth of field. Photoshop makes it extremely far more
easy to saturate the light and enhance the shot with a sepia tone etc..
making it a more accessible art form with lower barrier to entry.
I just recently downloaded this iPhone app from the Mill:
http://www.the-mill.com/
I used the preset filters on some of the pictures I had on my phone and was
rather impressed.
The correlation with b&w photos, film noir, faust, the divine comedy etc,
all have distinct parallels in regards to form.
Arousing the senses is the goal defining which sensory perception is better
is the enemy. Although, I think masters of Aural influence are most rare in
comparison to any.
I think if you sell what ever it is you're excreting it is no longer art.
Do you think the evolution of the tools of your craft making your work
easier degrades the value of your work? Compare a vinyl DJ who digs for
records creating a unique library matches tempos with knobs, dials and
sliders compared to a mp3 playlist mixer who downloads tracks, clicks a
button with a mouse, who has more talent?
2 cents.
