Dear Corina,

Thank you so much for your comment.

I would like to visit your school and participate in Research Lesson Study,
if possible.

>I notice that Tadashi says they are not the same and would like to know
more about how they differ in Japan.

I am sorry I cannot express Japanese system in English.
Lesson study is the translation of "Jugyo-Kenkyu" by Louis,K.
In Japan the similar term is "Kenkyu-Jugyo".
I think "Jugyo-Kenkyu" is that some teachers, for example, those taking
charge of the same grade, or the same subject, do research for CPD, while
"Kenkyu-Jugyo" is that a particular teacher open his/her teaching to other
teachers and all school teachers participate in discussion based on the
observed lesson. This opened teaching is planed to achieve school
educational goal, and sometimes the same lesson plan tries out in other same
grade class. The practitioner discuss the lesson plan with the same
grade/same subject teachers before implementing his/her teaching. I think
"Jugyo-Kenkyu" is common for teachers for CPD, while "Kenkyu-Jugyo" is a
well-considered approach to school-based research, in which they can learn
about many things related to CPD.
in Kounai-ken as a whole school "Kenkyu-Jugyo" is mainly conducted in many
cases.

I am sorry I cannot always explain the Japanese system.
