Dear Sarah and all,
>Having mature students often (in my experience) provides excellent peer
mentoring opportunities. Some students come from other professions where they
have been highly successful but are looking for change of career. Does that
happen in Japan, Tadashi, or are the novice teachers always coming straight
from studying in universities?
I think school teachers and mentor teachers have the possibility of
providing different opportunities to other teachers if they have their
experience of other profession.
In Japan the number of school teachers from other profession is increasing,
but most novice teachers come strait from studying in universities because
there is no PGCE in Japan.
And most boards of education introduced the programme of school teachers'
working at the some companies as the in-service teacher training programme
about ten years ago. The aim of this programme is for school teachers to
have an experience of working out of school because they are short of
their experience in the society. However, I think this programme is not
effective.
Warmest regards,
Tadashi
