MA Illustration: Authorial Practice
Grade 6/7
Pro rata to £29,705 to £42,351 per annum
Most Illustration involves an illustrator producing work to a
prescribed commercial brief where they are expected to stifle their
contribution to form and content, having very little input or control
over their work and its usage. The idea behind Illustration: Authorial
Practice is that students take responsibility for developing their own
ideas and material. They become the author.
MA Illustration: Authorial Practice is a studio based course focused
on the development of the authorial voice within illustration. Recent
debate has highlighted the need to reassert the characteristics of
personal origination, ownership, storytelling and literary ideas
within the discipline.
We are looking to recruit a practitioner with sympathies towards
contextual research to contribute to the delivery of this course. With
a Masters level education in Illustration or a related subject you
should have a good knowledge and professional experience of the
discipline of illustration, and a strong interest in authorial
illustration in particular. An interest in contextual research and the
ability to contribute to the delivery of theoretical and analytical
aspects of the course is vital, as is an ongoing commitment to
research and/or professional practice in a related field. Digital
media and animation skills would be desirable, along with experience
within the fields of narrative and sequential illustration, graphic
novels and drawing.
Closing date for applications: Thursday 11 June 2009. Please quote Ref: UCF0089.
The remuneration package includes membership of the Teachers' Pension
Scheme. Subsidised local transport is available dependent on working
hours.

application packs are available online.
