Wow! Congratulations to Mark, Louise and Annebella. Absolutely brilliant. Especially a May 12 conference! It's a pity there are already 2 bank holidays in May, but even if not possible to make another holiday, I think we should try and get May 12 officially declared and nationally recognised as MO day.
This award confirms my believe that MO is about to go supernova in the academic world.
Best,
Nick

Dear all,
Our colleagues at the University of Brighton, Mark Bhatti, Louise Purbrick
and Annebella Pollen have been successful in getting an award to support a
year of debate and discussion on the methodological aspects of Mass
Observation.
Annebella is setting up a new JISC mail list for the duration of this
initiative. This will not replace this list which Jessica continues to run
from the Archive but will run in parallel. The University of Brighton list
will focus primarily on issues of analysis and interpretation. If you would
like to join the list, please have a look at their announcement below and
contact Annebella ([log in to unmask])

Methodological Innovations I: Using Mass Observation
Collaborative Research Network
Using Mass Observation aims to create a cluster of researchers in arts,
humanities and social sciences interested in interpreting and using unique
accounts of everyday life in Britain held at the Mass Observation Archive
based at the University of Sussex. This year length project intends to
facilitate dialogue between researchers, host practical workshops and
produce publications. The first workshop, Mass Observation Methods:
Analysing Writing, is designed for early career researchers and will take
place on: Friday 6 November 2009. There will be a second workshop early
next year; our final event is a national conference on Wednesday 12 May
2010 entitled New Perspectives on Mass Observation.
Using Mass Observation will examine the widest range of approaches to the
historical, autobiographical, and ethnographic written material generated
and collected by the Mass Observation Archive. We will seek to understand,
debate, and share methods developed within particular disciplines with
researchers from a variety of fields thereby extending interdisciplinary
practice.
Using Mass Observation would like to invite any interested researchers,
especially early career researchers and postgraduate students, to join this
new collaborative research network. The network offers on-going discussion
about Mass Observation and methodology, guidance in utilising and
commissioning Mass Observation research, and support for writing grant
proposals and academic publications.
