I am forwarding a message calling for submissions to an exciting new
project initiated by Joseli Silva (Brasil) and Diana Lan (Argentina). A
new electronic journal will be the first gender and geography journal in
Latin America.


Details of submissions (which can be in Portuguese, Spanish, or
English) are given below. in Portuguese and English.

The website for the journal is www.genero.territoriolivre.net


The journal has an international editorial advisory board.


The first deadline is July, 31, 2009.

Caros colegas,

É com alegria que terminamos de organizar o site para lançar a Revista
Latino-americana de Geografia e Gênero.

O compromisso de preparar um espaço de publicações científicas
relacionado à abordagem de gênero e sexualidades foi firmado no 12^o
Encontro de Geógrafos da América Latina ocorrido em abril de 2009 em
Montevidéu – Uruguai.

Agora que já preparamos a plataforma eletrônica, necessitamos o apoio da
comunidade científica para lançar o primeiro número da revista. Apenas
com a publicação já lançada é que poderemos cadastrá-la no “Instituto
Brasileiro de Informação em Ciência e Tecnologia” a fim de obter o ISSN
(Número Internacional Normalizado para Publicações Seriadas). Conforme
as regras do referido instituto, a concessão do registro para as
publicações eletrônicas ocorre apenas quando a revista já está no ar.

Assim, solicitamos que enviem suas publicações que poderão ser em
português, espanhol ou inglês. Apenas os textos em inglês serão
traduzidos para português, já que as línguas Portuguesa e Espanhola são
de fácil compreensão mútua.

Acreditamos que a tradução dos artigos em língua inglesa é fundamental
para a expansão dos estudos de gênero na geografia da América Latina e
para o estabelecimento de um diálogo entre pesquisadores latinos e
anglófonos.

Esperamos contar com o apoio desta comunidade científica. Necessitamos
muito de sua colaboração, já que esta revista será a primeira na América
Latina a abordar as temáticas de gênero e sexualidades e necessitamos
construir legitimidade científica junto à comunidade geográfica
latino-americana.

Data limite para envio de artigos: 31 de Julho de 2009.

Dear colleagues,

We are happy to inform you that we have finished preparing the website
to launch the Latin American Journal of Geography and Gender.

The commitment to prepare a space for scientific publications related to
gender and sexuality approach was firmed on the 12^th Latin American
Geographers Meeting that happened in April of 2009 in Montevideo – Uruguay.

Since we have already prepared the electronic platform, we need the
support of the scientific community to launch the first edition of the
Journal. Only after its publication we will be able to register with the
Brazilian Institute of Information on Science and Technology in order to
obtain the ISSN (International Standard Serial Number). According to the
institute rules, the journal registration will only be issued after it
has been published.

Therefore, we ask that you send your publications in either Portuguese,
Spanish or English. We highlight that texts in English will be
translated into Portuguese. Since the Portuguese and Spanish languages
allow mutual comprehension the articles in these languages will not be
translated.

We believe that the availability of the English articles for the Latin
American audience is core to the expansion of the gender studies in
Latin American Geography. This, in turn, will foment the dialogue
between Latin and English speaking researches.

We hope we can count on the support of our scientific community. We
really need your cooperation, for this Journal will be the first one in
Latin America to bring the gender and sexuality themes. For this reason
we need to build a strong scientific reputation along the Latin American
Geographic Community.

The deadline for article submission is: July, 31^st of 2009.
