Göttingen, 15 June 2009
Dear colleagues
My name is Dr. Gordon Charles Ross. I am a full-time lector at the
Georg-Augusta-Universität in Göttingen where I teach, amongst other things,
German-English translation, English conversation classes, phonetics and
phonology, writing, Landeskunde, etc.
I am currently looking for someone in the UK or Ireland to do a teacher
exchange with and would be grateful if you would be so kind as to circulate
this mail to your colleagues to see if anyone would be interested in swapping
positions with me in Göttingen for a set period of time.
At present, I don’t have any firm plans or a detailed framework for this
exchange, and am more than open to other suggestions or ideas, but basically
I was thinking of about a year swap in which we would swap positions and
houses for a year, but not wages, if possible beginning this winter term (our
Winter Semester 2009/10) or - more likely - Summer Semester 2010.
I would like to point out that, although I am an English lector here in
Göttingen, I am actually a ‘Germanist’ by trade with a First Class
honours degree in German and IR and a PhD on the extreme right in the GDR
and one or two minor publications. My teaching of German is a little rusty but
I’m sure I could teach German in your department especially, of course,
translation. I am also the Erasmus and year-abroad co-ordinator for the
English Department. For further details please see my homepage:
https://www.studip.uni-goettingen.de/about.php
Any potential exchange colleague in Göttingen would obviously have to teach
English but it isn't too technical - mostly conversation, translation, phonetics,
pronunciation, etc. and absolutely no research!
Please let me know if anyone you know would be interested.
With kindest regards, freundlichen Grüßen und many thanks!
Gordon Ross
