Devised as part of the NEW OBJECT LESSONS programme supported by the
Wai Yin Chinese Women Society (Manchester), THE DIVERSITY SURVIVAL KIT
consists a selected number of Chinese items used as symbols of
Englishness.
This workshop will take you on a new fascinating global journey;
starting at the birth place of the umbrella + leading you through the
streets of Manchester. Using Manchester as a template, it will
demonstrate how to generate cross-cultural content for a wide range of
local heritage projects aimed at ALL audiences.
THE DIVERSITY SURVIVAL KIT is recommended to anyone involved in
celebrations such as the Chinese New Year, National Science +
Engineering Week, Local + Community History Month, Museums + Galleries
Month, Black History Month, Manchester Science Festival, Manchester
Literature Festival + the 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

Englishness. Participants will be invited to explore English heritage
from a BME perspective + shown how to develop cross-cultural content
for heritage projects, such as a series of guided trails, an online
exhibition, a community blog or educational resources.

In partnership with Wai Yin Chinese Women Society (Manchester), local
historian Dominique Tessier will facilitate a new series of New Object
Lessons workshops exploring historical links between China + Britain.
Between 01/06/09 + 20/07/09, the workshops will take place Mondays,
2pm - 5pm at the Wai Yin Chinese Women Society. For further
