Dear all,
earlier there was a discussion about the points based immigration
system in the UK, and how this is affecting researchers. For those of
you based in London, there's an upcoming meeting about campaigning
against the regulations at 6PM on Wednesday, the 17th of June, at UCL.
It's organised by UCU but is open to all (you don't have to be
involved with UCU to attend).

About the Points Based System for Immigration
The new regulations will require academic staff to monitor
the attendance of overseas students, reporting them to UKBA if they
miss too many classes and assignments; this has obvious implications
for human rights and academic freedom. The regulations have also made it
more difficult both for overseas students to obtain visas and also for overseas
researchers to visit the UK.
