KTH School for Computer Science and Communication (CSC) at KTH in Stockholm, Sweden seeks
Two senior lecturers in Human Computer Interaction
. one with specialization towards human sciences (http://www.kth.se/aktuellt/2.1445/1.40031?l=en), and
. one with a specialization towards interaction design (http://www.kth.se/aktuellt/2.1445/1.40026?l=en)
KTH is the largest technical university in Sweden. Education and research cover a broad spectrum within natural sciences and engineering, as well as architecture, industrial engineering and management, urban planning, work science and environmental engineering. There are circa 12,000 full-year undergraduate students, 1,400 postgraduate students and 3,100 employees.
CSC is one of Sweden's most advanced and successful research and education institutions in Information Technology at KTH and Stockholm University. The activities of the school focus on higher education and research within the traditional core areas of numerical analysis and computer science; from theory building and analysis of mathematical models to algorithm construction, implementation and simulation.
Other core areas of growing importance are technology and methods for the support of human communication and computer mediated cooperation over distances in time and space. The applied research includes scientific computing, computer science, computer vision, robotics, neural networks, human-computer interaction, media technology and graphic arts, and communication through speech, language and music. For more information see: www.kth.se/csc, go to "CSC International Website".
At the Department of Human-Computer Interaction research is going on in the following fields: Multimodal interaction with haptics and sound, Human-robot interaction, Computer supported collaboration, Communication environments and learning, User-centred IT-design, Visualization and computer graphics.
Description of the subject
Human Computer Interaction is the study of the interaction between humans and computerized technical systems. The subject is multidisciplinary, and embraces computer science methods and tools for the design of system functions that are adapted to the user, and human science theories and methods to understand, evaluate and improve computerized technical systems for human use. Methodology for the design of interactive computer systems is a part of the subject. The specialization towards human sciences involves technology focusing on the human being with support from behavioural, cognitive and media science. The specialization towards interaction design includes the design of products, services and environments with a particular emphasis on quality in use.
Qualification
To be qualified for employment as a senior lecturer you need to have a PhD in a subject relevant for the position or have equivalent scientific skills or other work experiences from the field. In addition to that the candidate need to have an education in university pedagogy or corresponding pedagogical knowledge and pedagogical skills.
Assessment criteria
Equal weight will be put on the candidate's ability to conduct education of high quality on basic, advanced and graduate level and to the ability of conducting research on a high international level. The human science position should have a specialization in one of the following fields; psychology, sociology, anthropology, ethnology, cognitive science, media science, business or pedagogy. The interaction design position should have a specialization in one of the following fields; design, construction and implementation of user interfaces or interactive systems with an emphasis on usability and positive user experiences. Great weight will be put to the candidate's ability to initiate and conduct own research projects as well as attracting external grants. As a special criteria, the experience of, and ability to conduct pedagogical development and renewal projects will be of great weight. Great weight will also be put on the ability to cooperate with the surrounding society and to inform about research and development work. Education will be conducted both on basic and advanced level and should be able to take place on both Swedish and English.
