Garvey (b. St Ann, Jamaica 1887) was the last of eleven children, all
of whom died in childhood except for an elder sister, Indiana (b.
1883).
Was such infant mortality common at that time? esp. considering that
Garvey's father, Marcus Garvey Snr. was a wealthy stonemason who
followed the Methodist religion. & esp. considering that my own family
- on both sides - had large families - all of whom - bar two out of 11
on my mother's side and 2 out of 7 on my father's side, all survived
into adulthood - as did the siblings of their parents - and neither
families were wealthy.
My internet search comes up with no data before 1962
Many thanks
