The Society of Archivists is seeking possible venues and speakers/trainers
to provide training in film archives.
The Society is currently applying for funding from Skillset, under its
"Archive Skills – Continuing Professional Development" programme to create a
series of training events to be held regionally across the UK. Before
submitting the application, we need to identify venues for these training
sessions to take place and for people to participate as trainers in these
sessions.
Our intent is to provide training in best practice in film archives, with
presentations from sector experts on best practice followed by practical
workshop sessions. The training will provide archivists and others working
with audio-visual archives with the basic skills and awareness of best
practice to effectively manage their collections. It will also provide those
working in non-specialist archives with the knowledge required to make the
best judgements with regard to the material in their care.
The type of training we're looking to provide will include areas such as
preservation, transfer, handling, recording processes, managing storage and
sourcing and repairing equipment.
The Society needs to submit its application by the last week of June and
we’re particularly keen to confirm suitable locations for the training
sessions prior to our submission. We’re keen for the sessions to be as
accessible as possible and this means providing training in a variety of
geographical locations.
If you think you can help, either by providing a suitable venue for a
workshop or by participating in training, then please contact me directly.
