Dear Claire and WAC members,
The last events on the Peruvian Amazon, regard the fair protest of the natives
amazon people and their struggle against the privatization and natural
resources exploitation cause a great consternation to all of us, Peruvian
citizens and academics. More than 50 indigenous were killed and almost 200 are
in jail now, after 54 days of pacific demonstrations. The Peruvian government
sent the troops to the region, saying that the amazon tribes and indigenous
people didn't want to dialogate.
But Peruvian president and his team never dialogate. They made this genocide
and now they manage all the local press and with persecutions to the indigenous
leaders. This is part of the despotic imposition of the economical model on the
side of the Peruvian President, Alan García who just follow the North American
neoliberal actions in despite of our natural and cultural resources.
I strongly ask to WAC Executive to pronunce about this tragedy, and ask to the
Peruvian Government to stop the persecution of Amazonic and Andean leaders, as
well as to stop the repression to all schollars -including anthropologists and
archaeologists- which pronounce against the political and militar actions of
Peruvian Government.
I want to share some outside reactions, as well as pictures of the tragedy with
WAC members in order to pursuit the pronuntiation of the Executive. You shoud
know that Peruvian president will not stop the repression, as well as he said
Peruvian Government will not stop because "400,000 indigenous people want to
stop the development of 28 million of peruvians".
Please be awarded that pictures are strong, and can affect sensitive people. but
that's the reality of our Indigenous population now. It is just indignating.

COMMUNIQUE FRANCE AMERIQUE LATINE
HALTE AU MASSACRE DES COMMUNAUTES INDIGENES DE L'AMAZONIE PERUVIENNE
Depuis 57 jours les populations indigènes de l'Amazonie péruvienne mènent une
grève générale pacifique, en réaction à onze décrets pris par le
gouvernement péruvien, favorables aux Traités de Libre Commerce et
attentatoires à leurs droits et à l’environnement.
En réponse, le gouvernement d’Alan Garcia a lancé vendredi 5 juin à
l’aube une attaque d’une violence incroyable sur les manifestants qui
occupaient depuis 10 jours la route Belaunde Terri, dans l'endroit nommé la «
Curva del Diablo », dans le département d'Amazonas, au nord du pays.
Selon les dernières informations dont nous disposons, cette attaque a causé la
mort de trente deux personnes dont 25 indigènes et 7 policiers. La police et
l'armée ont lancé depuis des hélicoptères des bombes lacrymogènes et ont
tiré sur les manifestants, ces derniers se sont défendus.
Ce massacre s'est produit quelques heures après que le congrès péruvien ait
pour une énième fois reporté le débat sur l'abrogation des décrets
législatifs incriminés. Le gouvernement d’Alan Garcia refuse en effet
d'entamer un dialogue réclamé par les communautés indigènes depuis le
début de la crise.
Selon la presse un mandat d'arrêt à été lancée contre tous les dirigeants
de l'Association Interethnique pour le Développement de l'Amazonie Péruvienne
(AIDESEP), dont Alberto PIZANGO son président, que le gouvernement d'Alan
Garcia accuse de comportements de délinquant.
Ce n'est pas la première fois que Alan Garcia se rend responsable d'un massacre
sur des populations civiles, lors de son premier gouvernement il s’était
illustré en 1986 par le massacre des prisonniers du « Fronton ».
France Amérique Latine condamne fermement ces crimes, et demande que toute la
lumière soit faite sur la responsabilité du gouvernement d'Alain Garcia,
commanditaire de cette intervention armée.
France Amérique Latine exige du gouvernement péruvien :
- l’arrêt immédiat de la persécution des dirigeants de
l'AIDESEP,
- le retrait des décrets incriminés,
- la suspension de l’Etat d’urgence,
- vérité, justice et réparation pour les victimes
Au moment où l’Europe est train de négocier des accords commerciaux avec le
Pérou, France Amérique Latine demande instamment aux responsables européens
et au gouvernement français de condamner le gouvernement péruvien pour ses
agissements.
