Medical Statistician
£34435 -£43622 per annum ( pro-rata, 0.7 FTE. Fixed term contract until 31 Dec 2009. A secondment would be considered)
The NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre (NETSCC), School of Medicine, Southampton Science Park
The University of Southampton is home to the NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre (NETSCC) which was established in April 2008. NETSCC is overseeing a growing number of programmes that are managed on behalf of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). The centre was created to meet challenges arising from the national research strategy Best Research for Best Health and the Government’s decision to increase the joint health research fund to £1.7 billion by 2010. This is an exciting time for NETSCC, with rapid expansion of current research programmes as well as establishing and taking on new programmes. For this reason we are recruiting to a significant number of new posts over a period extending to late 2009.
An exciting development opportunity now exists with the Strategy and Development directorate of NETSCC for an experienced medical statistician. This is an excellent opportunity for a medical statistician to develop their skills and experience in supporting the management of health evaluation research.
This post is responsible for providing statistical support to staff working on evaluation research programmes managed from NETSCC. Support in statistical aspects of the management of primary research, evidence synthesis, feasibility and pilot studies are required. Typically this will include sample size or power calculations, support in data and literature appraisal, and general expert advice to researchers and non-research staff. The post also involves education and training duties, for example training advice for researchers and non-research staff and contributing to learning and continuous professional development courses, seminars, lectures, and short courses.
