The MRC Biostatistics Unit aims to advance medical science by the
development, application and dissemination of statistical methods. It is
one of Europe's leading biostatistics research institutions and includes
many internationally renowned statisticians. It provides a privileged
environment for conducting research, with negligible administration, no
requirement to teach, and access to important applications of high public
interest.
We seek a statistician to work with Professor Sheila Bird and to contribute
to a programme of research at the interface of public health and other
jurisdictions - notably epidemics, criminal justice, and injection drug use.
Particular emphasis is on evaluation of criminal justice initiatives for
drug-dependent offenders - designs involving randomisation; database linkage
studies of transitions between criminal justice, mental and physical health,
infections and addictions services; and determinants of sentence variation.
You will also contribute to work on cost-effectiveness modelling for
evaluating interventions in Alzheimer's disease.
This is a three year training and development post.
You should have a Postgraduate qualification in statistics (normally a PhD),
or equivalent experience in medical statistics or a related discipline with
a large mathematical component, good statistical computing skills, knowledge
of statistical software, good communication skills, ability to work
independently, a strong interest in application of statistical methods in
health research.
Experience in Medical Statistics and Knowledge of STATA and SPlus is
desirable.
