Research Associate / Senior Research Associate
Applications are invited for an experienced and
enthusiastic researcher to play a lead role in
research on physical activity, obesity and risk
of cardiovascular disease in British adults at
the UCL Institute of Child Health (ICH).
The study is supported by the Department of
Health (DH) as part of the DH Public Health
Research Consortium. It is based on a rich
longitudinal dataset - the 1958 British birth
cohort - which has followed individuals
throughout childhood and adulthood to age 45y.
The post holder will be responsible for carrying
out secondary data analysis and write-up of scientific papers and reports.
This post offers an excellent opportunity to
undertake policy relevant epidemiological
research, with an emphasis on health
inequalities. It will allow an experienced
researcher to develop and apply their skills and
use a range of research methods within a
multidisciplinary research group. Appropriate
training opportunities will be available.
It is essential that all candidates must have a
PhD in a relevant subject area and have excellent
verbal and written communication skills. Research
experience is needed for this post, preferably in
epidemiology, medical statistics, nutrition or
another related subject. Candidates must have
analytical skills for handling large datasets,
preferably with experience of methods to analyse
complex longitudinal measures.
The post is funded until the end of March 2011.
If a Research Associate is appointed, salary will
be on Grade 7 of the UCL Salary scales which
ranges from £28,839 - £35,469 per annum. If a
Senior Research Associate is appointed, salary
will be £36,532 per annum which is on Grade 8 of
the UCL Salary scales. Salary will depend on
skills and experience. London Weighting of
£2,781 per annum is also paid per annum.

time working, salary will be pro rata for part-time working.
