Anything less than 75mm could be a trip hazard and anything over 170mm makes
it more difficult for some people to climb.... I don't know why Part M for
dwellings gives 75mm to 150mm and Part M for buildings other than dwellings
gives 150mm to 170mm though....... and BS8300: 2009 gives a preferred
dimensional range of between 150mm and 180mm.......... presumably there is
documented research which gives the reasons for this range. Does anyone know
where it might be found?

The Approved Document M is just a guide.
Nothing to stop the use of 180mm or 145mm providing you can explain why.

Subject: Rise of Steps
Dear All,
sorry to bother you on a friday afternoon,
but i was wondering if anyone could tell me why according to part M and
other
documentation the rise of a step should be 150mm or 170mm?
Many Thanks
