yes, partly it is a masochistic learning exercise, and, after I had thrashed
away at it for a while, I thought it might be helpful for you to have an
idiot's-eye-view of building starlink.
However, I am pleased to report that I have now reached the 'make world' part,
and, touch wood, stroke rabbit's foot etc, all seems to be going OK. Apart
from a few genuine difficulties I reported before, and which with your help I
fixed, I think any others I mentioned (starperl, messgen etc), can be be put
down to my failure to follow the simple instructions of the README, in
particular, I kept forgetting to re-add various directories to my path
between one attempt and another.
Once again, thanks to all of you for your help.
At some point in the future do you expect to move to gfortran for the compiled
binaries?
