Subject: My paper at UKeIG
This morning there is a report in The Guardian. A "pseudonymous blogger" has
been identified by the High Court in a judgment which makes it clear that
people who blog anonymously have no right/expectation of privacy. In the
case a blogger - who turned out to be a police officer - was identified by The
Times. Previously the officer had obtained an injunction to stop The Times
revealing his identity. But yesterday the High Court terminated the injunction
and it became possible to identify him. I believe that he has already been
disciplined by his employer. He was saying things that might reflect well on him
as an officer and his police force.
It does go to confirm what I was saying yesterday in my presentation at
UKeIG Conference 2009 - The Long Arm of the eLaw can and will reach out!
Web 2.0 technologies do carry risks and have to be used with common sense
and an awareness of the legal context!
