Women and the Anti-Apartheid Movement
A day of record at The Women’s Library

2009 marks the 50th aniversary of the founding of the Anti-Aparthied
Movement. This movment was one ofthe most successful international
solidarity movements in the UK. Join a panel of speakers to examine
women’s involvement in the political activities in London, and their
support for the women’s movement in South Africa, especially those that
were engaged in the struggle for freedom. There will also be an
opportunty to bring along or look at material from the movement. This
special event will feature writers, academics and activists including
London Anti-Apartheid women.
Speakers include Professor Shula Marks, former Director School of
Oriental and African Studies; Elaine Unterhalter, Institute of
Education; Jan Johannes, The Guardian; June Bam-Hutchison, Secretary of
the African Studies Association; Lindiwe Poswa, writer; Lela Kogbara,
Chair of Action for Southern Africa (ACTSA); Roshi Naidoo, former
Campaigns Co-ordinator End Loans to Southern Africa (ELTSA), and
Reverend Rennie Sweet.
