Consultation on the development of the Black Cultural Archives
I am one of the consultants working on a Conservation Management Plan (CMP)
for the Black Cultural Archives, and as part of the CMP I am conducting a
stakeholder consultation.
As you will no doubt be aware the Black Cultural Archives was founded in
1981 to collect, preserve and celebrate the contributions Black people have
made to the culture, society and heritage of the UK. The BCA is currently
engaged in a major capital project to create the UK's first national Black
heritage centre in Brixton, London. The catalogue to the collections is now
online at;
http://www.calmview.eu/BCA/CalmView/
Members of The Black and Asian Studies Association are all potential
stakeholders as users or interested parties in one form or another and so I
wanted to ask for opinions from the discussion group.
I am interested in any thoughts on the following issues;
- historical significance of the BCA archive,
- the relationship between BCA and other organisations in the UK,
- what do you (will you) value most about BCA?
In order to be included in the CMP I need to receive comments before the
22nd June 2009. Thank you in advance for any comments posted.
