Westminster Diocesan Archives
------------------------------------
Archives Assistant (1 year fixed term post)
Kensington, £10-12 per hour (neg) (Temporary)
Closing Date: 26 June 2009
Diocese of Westminster, Archives
The Westminster Diocesan Archives stored at Abingdon Rd in Kensington is
one of the country’s most important collections of documents relating to
the Roman Catholic community.
We are currently seeking an Archives Assistant to provide support and
assistance to the Project Archivist in the planning and organisation of
systems and procedures for the safekeeping of records and historically
valuable documents for the Diocese of Westminster.
The main focus of the post-holder will be on the electronic cataloguing of
the collections. In addition, the Archives Assistant may be required to
provide administrative support to the Project Archivist for the
implementation of systems of records management, as well as assisting
visitors with enquiries as required.
The role will provide both background theory and hands on practical
experience of work in a challenging but rewarding archives environment so
anyone with a strong interest or experience in ecclesiastical archives
and/or historical research is encouraged to apply. The role is also likely
to be of particular interest to individuals engaged in an Archives and
Records Management course.
Interview Date: 8th July 2009.
The post will commence in August 2009.
Hours of work: 14 hours per week usually between Monday-Wednesday,
although some
flexibility is required (Additional hours may be required)
