I'm currently 'shepherding' an oral history project that has been conducted by
secondary school pupils. The pupils have decided that they would like to
publish their findings in a book. We have permission forms etc for all
participants.
I'm concerned about what sort of stucture the book should take - should we
publish the whole transcripts or break them down into brief chapters of topics
with quotes from different people.
There are some issues to do with what has been said in some of the
interviews about the organisation the interviewees were all members of, the
organisation which is currently trying to decide if they'll fund the book! We felt
that perhaps breaking them down would be a reasonable way of editing out
the delicate bits for general publication, although full transcripts will be
available if people ask.
If anyone has dealt with delicate oral history projects like this and has advice
about publications - particularly the whole transcript vs editted highlights
arguement i'd love to hear from you.
