Fixed term until 30 September 2011 in the first instance
School of Cancer Sciences
Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit
The Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit at the University of Birmingham has a core-funded position available for a Biostatistician.
This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the largest of the National Cancer Research Institute Accredited Trials Units in the UK. The Unit is part of the School of Cancer Sciences which includes the first of Cancer Research UK's major research laboratories to be promoted nationally to Cancer Centre status. The Unit has an extensive portfolio of phase II and III clinical trials in a wide range of cancer disease sites and has one of the most active early drug development teams in the country. The Unit hosts a team funded by the Leukaemia Research Fund supporting phase II trial development in haematology on a national level.
Biostatisticians play a central role in the Unit, actively liaising with clinical investigators, contributing to the design and conduct of clinical trials, being responsible for interim and final analysis of clinical trial data and having a key role in the presentation and publication of results. As academic members of the University, Biostatisticians contribute to teaching at an under-graduate and post-graduate level. In addition the Unit is actively involved in researching statistical methodology related to clinical trials and associated translational research and is closely affiliated with the new Midland Hub for Trials Methodology Research funded by the Medical Research Council. Opportunities exist for members of the team to pursue their own research interests and carry out post-graduate qualifications.
