Hello
How small are you thinking of going?
We have a few learners with their own Eeepc (Asus) (and similar) that access our VLE and online purchased E-portfolios. They work, they do their thing.
It does mean that we are now revisiting the top part of the home page of the VLE to make it more useful to those with a small screen.
We have looked at our VLE with an iPhone, but I personally wouldn't want to work on it. We are beginning to look more and more at netbooks and the reduced screen size, but currently we don't give them out to learners.
What you really need to do is make sure you have no fixed width items otherwise they will play havoc with scrolling and the other is to be aware of what software is likely to be on your end users equipment. No good uploading everything in Office 2007 format if all your learners have is WordPad and Adobe reader. If they all have Open Office on Ubuntu then consider how your staff are going to work with emailed documents, if like us they are all familiar with Microsoft Office.

Subject: [VLES] Use of Ultra Mobile PC's to access VLE's
Hi All,
Sorry, I think that this is slightly off topic but can anyone share with me their
experiences of introducing Ultra Mobile PC's to access VLE's.
I want to 'give' our students Ultra Mobile PC's to access our VLE but would like
some idea of which UMPC is best and what to consider when buying them.
Also, how have UMPC's been made available to students, have you sold,
rented, given them free?
Many thanks
Graham Cowan
