Post-Graduate Opportunities
UCD Urban Institute Ireland (UII) PhD in Sustainable Development.
Applications are now open for the 2009/2010 cohort of students of the UCD
UII PhD in Sustainable Development. This group of students will start in
September 2009.
A limited number of PhD studentships will be available. Studentships will
consist of fees and an annual stipend circa. €16,000 plus allowance for travel
to international conferences and workshops.
The programme is IRCSET initiative by UCD Urban Institute Ireland (UII) with
support from three UCD Schools:
• The UCD School of Architecture, Landscape and Civil Engineering
• The UCD School of Geography, Planning and Environmental Policy
• The UCD School of Biology and Environmental Science
A four year programme, which commenced in the Academic year 2008/09, the
programme follows the UCD Structured PhD Framework, incorporating taught
modules and a research internship, followed by a program of original research
leading to the award of Doctoral (or Masters) degrees by research.
The PhD programme in Sustainable Development will be based around four main
clusters: Biodiversity & Climate Change, Environmental Economics & Policy,
Planning & Land Use, Transportation & Infrastructure
The programme is aimed at prospective postgraduate researchers from a range
of disciplines who wish to pursue interdisciplinary research related to the
challenges of Sustainable Development.
This includes but is not limited to
graduates from the following disciplinary backgrounds:
• Human & Social Sciences
• Engineering
• Life Sciences
