Dear List-Member
Over the years, I have frequently had to restore settings for list-members who have been automatically deleted. This usually happens when list-members have used out-of-office auto-messages which of course go to every list-member in response to every list message you receive! In order to avoid the understandable irritation, the list settings automatically suspend membership of such members after a certain number of these messages have been received. The problem with this of course is that we risk losing valued members who may not immediately realise that they are no longer full members. With holiday time coming up (and the EFTC conference) it may be a good time to remind you how to avoid this problem if you are intending to use out-of-office auto-messages while you are away:
First, you need to log onto the list website at - http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/therapeutic-communities.html - the website should automatically recognise you from your mail identifier and log you on (you have to be using your regular machine to do this).
Next, click on "Join or Leave Therapeutic-Communities". This will show you your current list configuration. Be careful not to alter any of the other settings but at the bottom of the settings list, under "Miscellaneous" you will see an option for "Mail Delivery Disabled Temporarily [NOMAIL]". If you check this box, you will stop receiving list messages until you switch it back on when you return.
Alternatively, you may find that your mail system allows you to select addresses which are exempt from the out-of-office auto-message system. Some e-mail systems allow you to list a series of addresses which do not receive these messages others allow you to send these messages only to addresses in your address book (or only to addresses NOT in your address book). I can not be more specific than this because it will be different with different mail servers.
I recognise that this is not ideal. It would be much better if the list system simply allowed me to block these messages from any list-member. I have asked Jiscmail (the people who run the list service) if this is possible but in the meantime, this is the best advice I can give.
