Dear SNoMS member,
Preparations for the 1910 Centenary Symposium are now under way. It is
scheduled to take place at the University of Glasgow, from 10th - 12th
December 2010.
At this point the organisers would welcome suggestions for papers and
especially panels of papers in response to any aspect of Virginia Woolf's
famous statement that 'On or about December 1910 human character changed.'
Papers are expected to be 15-20 minutes in length and panels are expected to
contain three papers, but some flexibility is possible in both cases.
Current proposals under consideration include: 1910 films, Human Character
in the Age of Climate Change and Scotland 1910. And areas that have been
suggested as possible include: Periodization; The Post-impressionist
exhibition; 1910 from 1924; the grammar of modernism; 1910 and
social/political activism. Further suggestions and proposals along these
lines and others would be very welcome.
The organisers would also particularly welcome suggestions or volunteers for
other musical / artistic activities or events that could take place in
coordination with the academic symposium.
