I'd refer these questions to my most recent comment that literary
theory is criticism which has become a fetish. There's nothing wrong
with explaining and discussing why and how literature works, but
there's a very great deal wrong when such discussions become an
academic credentialing ritual, valued intrinsically for its careerist
utility (as well as, perhaps, for the narcissistic pleasure of
indulging in it) and having only a tenuous if any connection to what's
really valuable in literature.
