[Apologies if you receive this multiple times. We would greatly appreciate it if you would pass this on to any relevant final year students or other relevant individuals that you know of in your area, thank you.]
Two funded PhD studentships (of 3.5 years duration) are available in the School of Computer Science at The University of Nottingham, UK, to start September/October 2009. Successful applicants will join the Automated Scheduling, optimisAtion and Planning (ASAP) research group (http://www.asap.cs.nott.ac.uk/) and will be investigating the development of intelligent decision support systems to aid the optimisation of airport operations. This exciting research area lies at the interface between Operational Research and Computer Science and involves understanding the real airport systems, the modelling of such systems and the development of automated search methodologies for intelligent decision support systems to aid operations at the airports. Students will be supervised by Professor Edmund K Burke and will work closely with other members of the ASAP group (especially those working on airport, air transportation and airline research) and with a team from our industrial collaborators: NATS (formerly National Air Traffic Services), Manchester Airport and Zurich Airport.
These studentships pay the standard living stipend (around 1100 GBP per month, inflation adjusted) and home/EU tuition fees. There is also the possibility for an enhanced stipend of an additional 4000 GBP per annum through the CASE award system for the appropriate candidate.
