Sine/Cine: The Journal of Cinema Research is launched.

Fall 2009 will mark the publication of the first volume of Sine/Cine, a new
journal that will be issued bi-annually (in the Spring and Fall) and edited by
Prof. Dr. Nilgün Abisel. Sine/Cine is a refereed cinema journal prepared by
academics and researchers working in the field of film research and is being
published by Çitlembik Publications.

Sine/Cine, whose aims include the provision of a shared cinema platform that
will bring together a variety of disciplines, along with the creation of a
foundation for research/debate/critique/inquiry in the fields of social science,
art and the humanities, plans to publish articles written on a variety of
subjects ranging from local cinema to Hollywood films, from art to popular
films, from classic to contemporary cinema, from the economic policies of
cinema to film history, from psychoanalysis to feminism, from conceptual
approaches to reception research and from various genres of films to directors.

While Sine/Cine does not limit the kinds of subjects that are acceptable, it
does demand that the articles are of academic quality. The articles must be
original; they must not have been previously accepted for publication or
published elsewhere

Article Submission and Writing Guidelines:

Our mission is to publish submissions (articles, research, translations, book
reviews, film analyses) that we believe will be beneficial to academicians and
researchers working in the field of cinema and that will provide the journal with
continuity and academic esteem. The last dates for submissions are:

Fall 2009 (No: 1) May 30, 2009
Spring 2010 (No: 2) January 30, 2010.

Sine/Cine publishes articles written in Turkish and English. In addition to
articles, each volume will also include a translated article, as determined or
selected by the editor, and book reviews and film critiques that are shorter in
length (2000-3000 words).

The length of the articles should not exceed 8000 words (including footnotes
and references). Articles written in Turkey should include both Turkish and
English abstracts of 100-150 words. Articles written in English only need an
English language abstract. The text should be written on A4 size paper, should
be double-spaced and only written on one side of the paper. Besides the
article, the author should also provide an additional sheet of paper with the
title of the article, name of the author, a brief biography, mailing address and
e-mail address. This information will not be sent to the jury members.

All articles must be written in Times News Roman font of 12 points. Footnotes
should be 10 points and all film titles should be italicized. The first time it is
mentioned, the original title of the film should be provided, with this title
followed by the name of the film in the language of the article. The original
name of the film should then be used throughout the article. If not provided in
the text, the name of the film’s director and the date of its production should
be written in parantheses. Example film: Monster/Canavar (Patty Jenkins,
2003), Aşk Mabudesi (Nejat Saydam, 1968). If necessary, the following
information should also be provided: Casablanca/Kazablanka (Michael Curtiz,
Warner Bros, USA, 1942).

All references should be written in parantheses and should include the name of
the author, publication date, and page number: (Butler, 1999: 38). The
footnotes should be numbered sequentially and should be provided at the
conclusion of the article, before the bibliography. Any quotations that exceed
40 words should not be placed within quotation marks, but should be written
in an indented paragraph form.

The bibliography should accord with APA guidelines.
