ILIG Informal on Book Aid International ** change of speaker **
Beth is off to Kenya so please join us on Wednesday 10 June to hear
Lesley Pinder talk about Book Aid International. She will introduce the
work of Book Aid International and tell us about its work in developing
countries, and how libraries and librarians can help.
This is a joint event organised by the University, College and Research
Group London Section and the International Library and Information
Group.
It will be held at CILIP, 7 Ridgmount Street, London WC1E 7AE, from 6.00
-- 7.45pm.
Lesley Pinder is Joint Head of Fundraising and Communications at Book
Aid International. She has worked on a wide range of initiatives from
World Book Day to the launch of "Books Change Lives" strategy. Prior to
joining Book Aid International Lesley worked for Bookstart.
Book Aid International increases access to books to support literacy,
education and development in sub-Saharan Africa. Book Aid International
is an independent international NGO with over 50 years experience and a
leader in the field of book provision to the developing world. The
organisation provides around half a million books to sub-Saharan Africa
every year through their partners. These include national libraries,
schools, prisons, refugee camps and NGOs. As well as books donated from
their south London warehouse, Book Aid International provides support in
the form of training, grants for purchasing books locally, and advice
and support to ensure that the books provided are well used and targeted
to the right groups of people.
There will be time for questions, discussion and networking. Light
refreshments* will be served. This Informal is free and all are welcome.
Book Aid International is the University College and Research Groups
current international charity and donations can be made at this event.
