Dear colleagues
Further to the information outlined below, somebody also suggested that
a situation like this would provide the opportunity to encourage staff
and students to use e-resources and other services e.g. online renewals
from off-campus, therefore highlighting the value of the library in
general.

Subject: Re: Library pandemic plans
Dear colleagues
Thank you for the responses I received to my email last week about
library pandemic plans. To summarise:-
* No library appears to have it's own particular plan, but are
aware of their institution's wider plans and will take advise from their
institution's Health and Safety advisors about if and when it is
advisable to close the library.
* Some libraries have contributed to their institution's plan, for
example one library has advice for library staff such as using sprays
and disinfectants on phones, keyboards, lift buttons, door handles;
using anti-bacterial hand gel when occupying library positions requiring
shifts. They have also advised their institution about the minimum
number of staff needed to keep the library open and where library staff
could be re-deployed during an outbreak.
* There is a useful journal article from the Canadian Library
Association on this topic :-
* Robertson, G. 2006. Pandemic perspective: How an
outbreak could affect libraries. Feliciter. 52 (3) pp.111-113
* Some universities have produced some pandemic planning
templates, though they are not library specific.

Subject: Library pandemic plans
Dear colleagues
Have any other higher education institution libraries formulated plans
for dealing with a pandemic outbreak? Our University has established an
Influenza Pandemic Management Team to ensure that the institution is
fully prepared , but I wonder if anybody has any particular plans for
their libraries?
I imagine this is something we are all having to think about just now,
so I will summarise any responses for the list.
Many thanks in advance.
