No need to apologise, we've all been there!
The best way to get on top of this is stepwise, a little bit at a time rather than making big configuration changes. You should be able to get your IdP to release attributes to target.iay now and you'll be able to see the effect of changes you make. The person who hasn't "broken" their resolver while trying to get something like a scriptletattributedefinition to work and had to remove it all and then add in the bits of code line by line may throw the first stone!
Keep on asking the list when you get stuck.
I agree with Rods comments about using echo for eptid, but I expect its just there to get it going for first testing and you'll be using some more stable attribute for production.
