Speaking of diligently seeking permission, perhaps the repository
could help with that workflow. Here's a fragment of metadata screen
from a hypothetical record for a video of a performance.
Once this information is entered, the repository could run the
permissions clearance process by emailing an appropriate form to the
contributors and recording their responses, using a similar mechanism
to the so-called "Request a Copy" button. The normal rules about
visibility, or about deposit itself, could be made contingent on
receiving permission from all the parties concerned. In fact, the
"open access" status could change automatically on receipt of all
responses, without any input from the repository manager.
