Applications are invited for one or more full-time postgraduate
scholarships leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Public
Health. Suitably qualified candidates will have Hons degree, or
equivalent, in economics. The scholarships are supported by a National
Health and Medical Research Council Capacity Building Grant that focuses
on using health economics to strengthen ties between evidence, policy
and practice for the prevention and treatment of chronic disease. The
research will involve use of one or more large clinical and
administrative data sets containing individual level information on
costs, outcomes and quality of life of people with chronic diseases such
diabetes. There is scope for the successful applicant to conduct
additional fieldwork in the course of their research to collect
supplementary data. Strong quantitative skills and/or a demonstrated
interest in health economics would be an advantage. Applicants should
also have an interest in the wider policy implications of their
research. The scholarship is valued at $26,359 per annum (tax exempt)
and may be renewed for up to three years. Applicants must be Australian
