It is validating to read Andrea's insights into her arts based
research.
Improvising within structures, scores, or frameworks, is at the heart of
my research, Antarctic Animation: www.antarcticanimation.com
These lines from Andrea's essay particularly resonate with my experience
as an animator exploring ways to describe Antarctica.
'My aim was to create a set of limits within which I had the
possibility for infinite exploration and increasing complexity.'
'...limiting myself to the simplest tools'
'The strict limits I had imposed upon myself had liberated me.'
I am researching ways to engage viewers kinesthetically to the state of
heightened awareness that some people, including myself, have
experienced in Antarctica. I am drawing on this sense through
improvised gesture to connect us with objective evidence of global
warming.
As a naturally elemental environment, it is not surprising to
experience what Andrea experiences through her drawing
practice:
'...a state of heightened consciousness'
For me, going to Antarctica
'...renewed my faith in the larger project of art-making.'
Andrea also affirms the value to conversation to illuminate
what we do.
This forum offers excellent opportunities for these to occur.
I am a regular listener! Thank you.
I research and present my animations on-line.
