Alas it will only justify what we get paid already.

I did not say we should not - I just pointed out that if we did we would probably get paid more!

        Suzanne,

thanks for the link- it's an interesting critique and it eloquently portrays a standpoint many people would agree with. I'd think it would make a powerful point in your teaching sessions.

Craig- I'm sorry but I'm not following your point. We have a system currently of mental health provision that includes clinical psychologists. Psychologists currently undergo a training programme that is, often, heavily based on individualistic theories that seek to locate distress as a disorder and locate psychology as a curative medium for that disorder. I think Suzannes suggestion is a good one; to take issue with these assumptions, broaden peoples thinking and open up critical dialogue at a point where trainees are about to take responsibility of such powerful roles.

I'm confused that you seem to imply this is not good and belittle the idea. Are you saying that training sessions SHOULDN'T consist of this kind of medium for relaying arguments against psychology??

There are, of course, big arguments about the validity of psychology. There are also changes that we can all make in the system that we all engage with which, while relatively small, can work to bring about better experiences for those seeking help (and pave the way for the bigger changes).

        Alison

By teaching I mean taking it to groups of trainee clinical psychologists, just incase they haven't seen it on u-tube. I wouldn't have seen it on u-tube unless someone had drawn my attention to it as I don't regularly go to the U-tube website.

What do you mean by "teaching"? He's already getting to 000s people on U tube.

I was definitely going to approach the guy and ask him if he minded me
using it in teaching, and there won't be any chance of it being stored
on my work server as I'm not even allowed to open a u-tube page at
        work!!

        anti-psychology/counselling/psychotherapy: a personal

         perspective

        Hi,
This is a really interesting video. Thanks.

In terms of teaching I'm guessing it might be OK to use as no-one may
actually know. At our place people use images from Google etc and I'm
sure they are not always copyright free. What our
         university
         have a
problem with is these images being stored on their servers or electronic
teaching platforms as this is seen as a clearer violation. Storing links
to things is not a problem.

Whatever the copyright position though in a case like this I'd be
inclined to email the bloke and ask him though which would be more in
the spirit of the kinds of
         things he's saying.
         It may be that he's
        happy
for it to be out there (obviously he has posted it for anyone to look
        at).

        Thanks again

        John McGowan

I was told about this link which I thought people might be interested
        in:

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yxFRwRuPZE

it's a powerful critique of psychology from personal experience of being
offered counselling/psychotherapy. I think I might use it for teaching.
Do you think I have to ask permission?
