Postdoctoral Researcher: Colonial Film: Moving Images of the British Empire,

Full-time fixed-term post
We are seeking to appoint a postdoctoral researcher to join a major
project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council entitled
"Colonial Film: Moving Images of the British Empire." The project is well
advanced in producing a catalogue of all the colonial film (defined as
fictional or factual representations of British colonies) held in the film
archives of the British Film Institute, the Imperial War Museum, and the
British Empire and Commonwealth Museum.
You will focus principally on the production of enhanced catalogue entries
which will marry the highest level of contemporary academic knowledge to
the best archival practice. You will also be involved in organizing
research seminars, conferences and film screenings, and will liaise with a
wide variety of people involved in the project. You will be educated to
doctoral level. The most important academic disciplines for this project
are film studies, history, anthropology, art history. As part of your
application, you should indicate in a one page paper what disciplines you
will bring to the project. In addition, you will have previous experience
of contributing to research, utilizing research methods and techniques,
along with succinct and effective writing skills.
Salary: ?33,501 rising to ?38,376 per annum inclusive of London Allowance.
This job is full time and fixed term to 30 September 2010.
The salary quoted above is inclusive of London allowance.
The initial salary award will be dependent on the skills and experience of
the successful applicant. The appointment will be subject to a
probationary period of 6 months.
