Dear all,
The Education and Professional Development Committee organises a series of
visits to art libraries for ARLIS members, and we'd like your opinion on the
following:
We have found that a small number of libraries we have considered visiting
may ask for a fee per person to visit. Generally speaking, this has
discouraged us proceeding with the visit, on the assumption that this may
deter members from signing up for the visit.
However, at a recent meeting we decided that perhaps it might be worth
canvassing ARLIS members opinions on this. If we were to organise a visit
which you were interested in attending, would you (or your employer) be
prepared to pay a fee if one were required by the venue? Commonly the prices
we've been asked for have been approx £5.
I would just like to stress that this is mearly a canvassing of opinion to
help inform our visits calendar in the future, not a proposal to charge for
ARLIS visits.
We very much value venues allowing ARLIS members to visit free of charge,
and understand the reasons behind those which do ask for a fee.
If you could reply to me directly with a yes or no (or any other thoughts)
by May 29th and I will compile the responses and report to the next
Education and Professional Development Committee
Thank you for your help
