Dear Pamela,
As a footnote to Kyle's note below - also, if you're entering something
that will just be viewed through a web-browser, there's a string of
characters that you can enter which will look like gobbledygook in the
database itself but should display as a yogh when part of an HTML page:
Ȝ displays as capital yogh
ȝ displays as lower-case yogh
There are various listings on the net of these strings (you can get
thorn, eth etc as well): here, for instance
http://www.columbia.edu/kermit/utf8-t1.html.
All the best,
Chris

Dear All,
In this computer database age I am having difficulty knowing how to
transcr=
ibe a yogh. I'm finding it hard to find a symbol in the available normal
te=
xt symbols that looks right when copied into our Adlib database.=20
Can anyone tell me how they get round this please?=20
Failing that could anyone tell me whether there is a convention for it?
Sho=
uld I just decide whether y or g is most appropriate (in the catalogue
in q=
uestion it appears in two different names of witnesses) or should I put
[yo=
gh]ege?
Belated thanks to everyone who responded about my other two recent
problems=
. My scanning project is now underway - our IT department was extremely
hel=
pful and just gave us extra server space, so I won't have a word said
again=
st them. We will start out making CDs for searchroom use but will keep
this=
under review to see whether they get enough use for the effort
involved. W=
e did take the microfilm camera but have yet to use it.

Pamela,
To start with the part you have probably already found ... the symbol
can=
be
entered in one of two ways
1) Hold the ALT key down whilst typing 540 on the numeric keypad
2) Start up the character map (normally hidden somewhere in the Windows
menus =96 maybe accessories) select the character and the click on the
=91=
Copy=92
button =96 you can then paste it into Adlib
Now comes the Adlib specific part. This will only store and display
correctly if your program is working in Unicode, something that Adlib
can=
do
if your system has been converted to cope with this. So try adding the
character and save the record - if your character changes to a question
m=
ark
(or similar) then it's not working in Unicode and you won't be able to
us=
e
the real character.
