An apparently simple question; can anybody point me to a reasonably
authoritative text that gives an expression for the cumulative
distribution of the median for even numbers of observations from a
parent distribution with cumulative distribution function F(x)?
The distributon for odd n appears in my textbooks (eg Kendall &
Stewart); the even-n solution, oddly, seems to appear only as an
exercise in using joint distributions of order statistics and left to
the reader before tunring to the interesting but not very useful topic
of the joint distribution of range and mid-mean (!).
Any pointers gratefully received
