The School for Health is currently seeking an applied statistician or
epidemiologist to join the University's expanding cross faculty tobacco
control research group, part of the newly formed UK Centre for Tobacco
Control Studies.
The applicant will undertake work on a variety of cross-cutting projects
using routine datasets and surveys to evaluate impacts of tobacco control
policies and determine the direction for future policies. You will be highly
motivated with extensive experience in using STATA (and other statistical
packages) to collate and analyse large datasets.
You will be experienced in regression and time series analyses as well as
other techniques appropriate to the analysis of large datasets, able to work
independently to produce high quality analyses and have a proven track
record of peer reviewed publications (or equivalent) commensurate with your
stage of career. Ideally, although this is not a pre-requisite, you will
also have experience of using one or more of the datasets of interest which
include the General Household Survey, the Health Survey for England, the
Omnibus survey and/or ONS mortality data.
You must also be able to work collaboratively as part of a
multi-disciplinary team working across the University and with other partner
agencies. Support for the role will be provided by Dr Gilmore, clinical
reader in public health and Dr Taylor, senior lecturer in medical statistics
and Professor Ken Judge, head of the School for health. Interviews will be
held on 2 June 2009.
In addition to the routine application procedure you are also requested to
submit a copy of your curriculum vitae and copies of two of your recent and
most relevant publications (where available). Informal enquiries are
welcomed by Cathy Flower, the Tobacco Control Research Administrator
