SALARY: AfC Band 5: £20,710 - £26,839
HOURS: Full time 37½ hours per week
BASE: EMPHO, Pleasley Vale, between Chesterfield and Mansfield
CONTRACT: Two years from date of appointment

EMPHO wishes to recruit an enthusiastic and committed Analyst to join our HES team. A major part of this role will be the production of accurate and timely information, performing complex queries and statistical analyses, and presenting the results to support the work of the Observatory and in response to ad-hoc requests from a variety of sources.
Candidates must be highly numerate and have knowledge of database structures, with excellent skills in database manipulation and in querying large databases and spreadsheets effectively (e.g. using SQL and Business Objects). Highly developed communication skills, both written and verbal, are also important to enable you to assess and interpret users' information needs. You must be able to work as part of a small team as well as on your own initiative.
You will be a graduate (or have extensive previous experience) with self-management, team working and communication skills and a firm grasp of data management, analysis and interpretation. Working alongside experienced analysts, you will have ample opportunities to further develop your knowledge and skills.

POST 2: Senior Public Health Analyst (HES)
SALARY: AfC Band 7 (£29,789 - £39,273)
HOURS: Full time 37½ hours per week
BASE: EMPHO, Pleasley Vale, between Chesterfield and Mansfield
CONTRACT: 12 months from date of appointment (maternity cover) (possible 12 month extension dependent on funding)
CLOSING DATE: Friday 12 June 2009
We wish to appoint a senior public health analyst to manage a small team of analysts and lead the strategic development and operation of EMPHO's Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) service. You will also be responsible for leading the implementation of a new data warehouse including the full range of EMPHO's datasets for use by your analyst colleagues.
You will be a graduate with highly developed self-management, leadership and communication skills with the ability to analyse and resolve complex information queries and problems.
Candidates must have extensive knowledge and experience of managing, analysing and interpreting HES data and/or the development, implementation, and management of SQL server databases involving other complex datasets. You will possess detailed knowledge of SQL databases/data warehouses and/or detailed knowledge of using SQL and/or Business Objects to analyse HES data.
Working with an existing team of experienced analysts you will have ample opportunities to further develop your knowledge and skills.

POST 3:Principal Public Health Intelligence Specialist
SALARY: AfC Band 8a (£37,996 - £45,596)
HOURS: Full time 37½ hours per week
BASE: EMPHO, Pleasley Vale, between Chesterfield and Mansfield
CONTRACT: Permanent
CLOSING DATE: Friday 19th June 2009
We are currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join us in this exciting new post at EMPHO. With a proven track record of public health information analysis and interpretation to support decision making at senior levels, you will lead the development and management of EMPHO's analytical function and manage a growing team of public health analysts. You will need to be enthusiastic, proactive and innovative, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
As well as a key role in the strategic development of EMPHO and leading on a portfolio of projects, you will also have the opportunity to make an important contribution to national projects on behalf of the Association of Public Health Observatories.
You will have a masters degree in public health or a related field (e.g. statistics, epidemiology) together with substantial experience of public health and health intelligence.
Successful candidates will have substantial expertise in statistical and epidemiological methodologies for analysing, interpreting and presenting datasets and associated patterns and trends, including small area analysis.
