SENIOR MEDICAL STATISTICIAN

Salary: Research Associate £27,183 - £35,469
or Senior Research Associate £36,532 - £46,278 per annum
You will have a PhD in Statistics and wish to join the University of Cambridge's prestigious Department of Public Health and Primary Care, which was awarded a 5* top rating in the last Research Assessment Exercise.
You will have experience either in line-management of statisticians, or working as part of a group of statisticians. An appreciation of and a willingness to develop an understanding of statistical issues specific to primary care research is essential, as is a strong understanding of or experience in undertaking statistical tasks in publicly funded trials, including a particular strength in statistical computing. You will be able both to work independently and to schedule work plans for a statistical team, and will participate in multi-disciplinary meetings involving senior researchers at design and later stages of research studies.
Excellent communication skills are needed to explain statistical concepts clearly to clinical colleagues and consulting collaborators, as is a background in applying statistical methods in multi-disciplinary team working setting and in statistical consulting.
Key activities you will undertake will include advice and development of trial protocols, and development or implementation of statistical analysis plans for trial. You will have knowledge to advise and collaborate in projects such as meta-analyses, statistical advice, staff recruitment, support and development of statistical staff and supervision of planned activities, contribution to applied and applicable methodological papers relating to statistical issues crossing with other disciplines such as behavioural science and consistent with settings such as primary care.
The post is a two-year fixed term contract and is a joint 50/50 appointment with the General Practice & Primary Care Research Unit (GP & PCRU) and the Centre for Applied Medical Statistics (CAMS).
